Sand Testing for Construction

All construction materials used in construction must meet the requirements established by regulatory documents. Sand is one of the most common materials. It is widely used in the construction of various kinds.

The scope of sand is quite extensive: it is used in concrete, excavation and finishing work, that is, at almost every stage of construction:

  • production of cement-based building mixtures;
  • manufacturing of reinforced concrete elements, wall blocks;
  • washing up of building plots;
  • sandblasting;
  • construction of embankments and roads;
  • soil compaction under the foundation.

Sand is part of important building structures, and therefore its quality and compliance with standards are the most important condition for the safety of facilities under construction. The requirements for the quality of building sand are fixed by GOST 8736-2014.

As a rule, studies are conducted in specialized laboratories on pre-selected samples. Experts check a number of different characteristics, among which:

  • density of sand;
  • size of individual elements;
  • impurity content;
  • resistance to low temperatures;
  • the presence and level of radioactive background.

At the end of the research, specialists prepare a special conclusion, where the place and time of the study, the methods used, and the results are recorded. The conclusion is the basis for the commissioning and further use of sand during construction.
